Case Study: Leisure
Bransbury Leisure Centre
Location: Bransbury, Portsmouth
Client: Portsmouth City Council
Sector: Leisure
Value: £12.5M
A new community and leisure facility in Bransbury Park, Portsmouth. The new brownfield development will include two pools, a gym, sports hall, and meeting rooms to replace the councils existing ageing leisure facilities.
Chord were appointed in January 2023 to take the scheme to tender on enhanced performance duties.
Currently in for planning, as a public sector leisure development, Portsmouth Council are also working closely with the NHS to investigate the inclusion of a new GP surgery as part of the development. Working with multiple stakeholders, within the public sector bodies, has required close collaborative working within the design team.
Designed to meet BREEAM Very Good, with no fossil fuels, the facility will utilise PassivHaus principles and heat pump technologies, with on site PV, to minimise the ongoing running costs to the council.
As with any major public sector development, affordability has been a significant driver, requiring the team to focus on commercial considerations of the design from concept onwards.
“We’re really enjoying working with Chord on our leisure schemes. They combine a good understanding of the sector with a commercial and collaborative approach”
