Having been appointed under previous employment on the previous phases, the developer put faith in Chord Consult to design this new build 1,000 bed student unit in Coventry. We are providing Stage 3+ design with post tender monitoring duties.
Chord were appointed in June 2021 to provide a Technical Advisor role to the councils delivery team.
The library was long awaited, following the permanent closure of the existing ageing facility as part of the pandemic response.
The facility was the Cat B fit out of a shell and core extension to a new build car park. The shell building had been earmarked for this purpose, having significant inherent natural light opportunities which were maximised in the design concepts.
The new services solutions are led with comfort and energy efficiency as the key drivers. Air Source heat pumps are utilised to provide a wet heating system, and a refrigeration based cooling system.
The new library is widely seen as a prominent anchor building to promote footfall and re-generation of the largely derelict Broadmarsh shopping centre.
“We’ve had an ambition for a while now to have a new central library and this meets all the expectations. It’s a beautiful building, a place which is spacious, a place which is welcoming and a place which is light”
Councillor David Mellen – Nottingham City Council Leader
